We're hiring - come join us!
AboveBoard Financial is a female-founded fintech startup on a mission to eradicate bad financial advice. We make it easy to get the right insurance by providing the smart, ethical advice that everyone deserves - check out our strong pro-consumer views on our very unusual blog.
Based in NYC and founded by alums of Goldman Sachs & Zynga, we’re backed by financial services executives and serial entrepreneurs, and loved by our customers (our NPS score is above 80, more than double the industry average).
We leverage technology to scour the market for the best life, disability, and long-term care insurance options for our customers, and win their loyalty with our unique focus on doing the right thing.
Head of Marketing
Client Advisor
Life & Disability Insurance Case Management & Client Care Coordinator
AboveBoard Insurance Services
Full-time role with equity ownership, opportunity for co-founder status
This role is our first marketing hire and is responsible for growing and converting highly qualified leads within our Insurance Services business. You will work directly with the two co-founders to further scale our client base, which already has a well-established business model and revenue. We currently grow primarily through referrals and content (we share our strong pro-consumer views on our very unusual blog). We're looking for a product marketer with experience in demand & lead generation to scale our marketing efforts and help more people learn about our unique offering.
Are you a scrappy marketer with a laser focus on growing leads and hitting revenue targets? Are you passionate about understanding customers' problems and motivations and crafting a story to reach multiple audiences? Do you love thinking outside the box, identifying, testing and growing new channels? Have you held previous roles marketing a more complex product or service to consumers (ideally in industries where customers want to learn prior to making a decision)?
Perhaps most importantly, does the idea of people getting ripped off really bother you, and are you excited to help them discover that there is a much better way? One of our founders teaches a class at Harvard Business School called: Insurance: Getting What You Need And Nothing You Don’t. Ours is a radically different, better approach, and we’re looking for someone who is excited about getting the word out.
If this describes you, and you’d be excited to work with a fast-paced financial services company with a focus on consumer protection and education, we’d love to hear from you!

Location can be flexible, position is 100% remote, but we are open to providing a workspace in New York City if that is your preference.

- You are self-aware and judicious about when you are not the right person for a particular set of tasks, and can recruit and supervise qualified freelance professionals in an ROI-aware manner to “fill in the gaps”
- A veteran of at least one digital marketing role at an early stage company, with a minimum of four years digital marketing experience (startup experience is a huge plus)

- A team player who takes ownership of your work
- Lead and manage the marketing efforts of the company, with the goal of growing the business in a sustainable manner reflecting AboveBoard’s core value of being smart and ethical
- Craft our product story and differentiate our service in a clear, compelling way to multiple audiences
- Research customers’ problems and motivations, develop personas and messaging to reach different customer segments
- Assess different channels, develop and execute qualified lead generation strategies in a resource-constrained environment (budget will grow as you identify successful channels)

- Be part of a fast-paced and high-functioning team at an early stage company
- Work with two fabulous female co-founders (including one Wellesley alum and one UC Berkeley alum)
The goal of the compensation package is to align our incentives. We want you to be a partner with us in growing the equity value of the business by making sustainable choices about marketing investments that reflect our values as a company.
